Children can join in the foodie fun at Saturday’s Nelson Food and Drink Festival by entering a ‘Cakelicious’ competition with a super prize.
The cupcake decorating competition will take place in the Pendle Rise Shopping centre from 11am to 2pm as part of the September 19th festival across the town centre.
Nelson-based family bakers Oddies have sponsored the competition, providing plain cupcakes and all the equipment and ingredients to decorate them. Children just need to pick up a cake and then decorate it however they like, with help on hand from Nelson and Colne College students if they need it.
To enter the competition, parents can then take a photo of their child with his or her decorated cake in a specially made festival cut-out scene and post the picture to Twitter using #nelsonfoodfest
The photo with the most retweets on Twitter will win a super sweet hamper, also been donated by Oddies. Children are welcome to take part in the cake decorating even if they don’t want to enter the competition… they will still have a delicious cake to show off and eat!
The competition is free, although participants can make a small donation to the Pendle Mayor’s Charity Fund if they want to. Also in the Pendle Rise shopping centre between 11am and 3pm will be free face painting and henna art.
More than 17,000 leaflets advertising the Nelson Food Festival, including the children’s activities, went out through Pendle schools this week, in addition to more than 20,000 festival brochures delivered to local homes. Other attractions on the day include a Worldwide Food Market, live cookery demonstrations with celebrity chef Richard Fox, street entertainers and a Bhangra dancing display.
The festival takes place in the town centre from 10am to 4pm and full details, including a downloadable brochure, can be found at www.nelsonfoodfestival.co.uk, where you can also book a free ride to the event on a classic double-decker bus.
